[full description / needless track information]

this album is actually a collection of various songs that were made between the last basic canoeing album in 2004 and up through 2016.

just loose ends of songs that never ended up on any actual release ever. a few that i have always loved and various rough ones i always wanted to finish someday but never got around to doing so.

i mostly wanted to get them done and finished and on a release of some sort before moving on to a new project.

01 clkcU60comb+drnboxVT3buddhRE1x2-DRN1fin+DRN2_x2wSAMx3xF2Qua-2016x2 (2'59")

this track is mostly all-new for 2016.

a combination of a few droning tracks i made to test out some new drone boxes for the 48 Hour Film Project in 2015. plus a slight mic feedback loop through a Roland VT3 combined with an original Buddha Machine playing in the distance then. along with some Logic instruments and other bits. then a looped sample from "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome".

02 Inkarpx2_FixNx2bJ3HHmv1 (3'27")

this is a pretty significant remix of the "Ink" title song from the Obnots 48 Hour Film Project in 2014 [https://vimeo.com/94939289].

the original was made during that 48 hour period... but i liked it enough i wanted to add in the 'come. swim with me.' sample from the movie itself and also added in a lot of other elements like the various distorted percussion and droning glitchness. a small portion of the Serial Krusher bit used in the movie itself was used here as well.

this version is only vaguely related to the original at this point.

03 MSNGv88cx2xfast3-60cvb6_FIN3sinev2 (2'20")

this was originally a song made on my iMac G5 in 2006.

just in GarageBand with some loops / samples i had made before (from even older than 2006) and a ton of random plugins. the file no longer opens on an Intel Mac (a lot of the plugins were never updated from PPC)... so all i had was the original mixed AIFF i exported then.

the vocal samples were most assuredly from an 'adult' source.

04 newweeness9x9seqoSCx2016 (3'03")

a song originally made in Reason in 2005 and went through ~20 revisions before this one (the originals sound nothing like this final one i ended up liking then).

this file actually was able to open in Reason still! so was able to export each track as a separate AIFF file and remix it ever-so-slightly in Logic. the vocal samples are clearly from "Blade Runner".

05 strpnonofutput1-2---pianononsense4x+AMBguitarPART2_90fnuh59TVTrevr+folkTEST+4AMB_3_SCx11dd2 (5'23")

this track is actually a combination of a whole bunch of different unfinished tracks (as you may be able to guess from the filename) ... hence the track description here being extra long.

the 'strpnonofutput1-2---pianononsense4x' portion is from an unused 48 Hour Film Project track made for "Ink" in 2014. this is actually the bulk of the plodding droning nonsense throughout the main portion of the song.

the 'AMBguitarPART2_90fnuh59TVTrevr' portion is a song i made in 2004. that part is under it from (basically) the beginning and getting more and more pronounced.

one of the early versions of the 'AMBguitarPART2' bloodline actually became track 2 on the first basic canoeing release in 2004 (the piano-y one ... after i removed all the 'AMBguitar' parts and did pianos instead).

i then revisited the original original many times and it kept spawning more and more completely unrelated versions. there were around *50* of them! (ranging from 0'38" to 5'40" in length!)

one of them was actually a kinda slow dubby broken breakbeat and weird reversed guitar samples and some vocal samples i lifted from "Bullitt".

that one is now an exclusive bonus track here as i have found no other use for it :

then eventually i came up with a longer droney version that was used in this song. though reversed from how it was originally.

the "folkTEST+4AMB_3_SCx11dd2" portion at the end of this song was another song that went through *86* revisions from beginning to end of the bloodline. very few are even similar in style.

for instance... the "folkTEST_10xBEATxSEQx_6FX" version ended up being the glitchy/beaty track 5 on the original basic canoeing release from 2004.

the version here was made from most-assuredly-non-tempo-synced loops of hippies playing hippie songs with hippie instruments from a drug documentary from the '70s. and ended with a sample from a '50s educational film about marriage. that sample is also used in this new song at a few different points.

06 clkdrnYY88x_2selfcontained75bpm-2016x46Dx2 (4'36")

this track is probably the main reason i made this release at all.

the original 'base' track of the guitars and percussion and synth thing was made in 2006.

the guitar samples were from recordings of this one nonsense band i was in for a bit then. basically they were just the guitarist tuning up that i recorded and then repurposed. the percussion (i believe) was just a combo of TR-606 samples i had and clicks/pops/body-thumps from the guitar-tuning recordings.

i always really liked the base track. but it was short. and needed something else. in ~2009 i had it playing while going through my movie sample library... and was like 'oh wow! these Last Temptation of Christ samples work *really* good with this!' ... and i repeatedly looped the base track and played the samples manually in QuickTime Player for like an hour. or more. it was pretty great sounding.

but never actually put the samples into the original track. invariably i would do that same manually-make-the-song in QuickTime when i was depressed. but never actually *made* the track.

after using the original 'base track' for my 2013 Burning Man video (made in 2015)... i realized i *really* should finish it. i put it in the list of things to do *for sure* once i made this release (as by that point i realized i needed to make something out of these old tracks).

it was still missing something to be finished though. as i was never able to get into again. so i pretty much saved it for last when making up the rest of this stuff.

*oh right!* depression!

once that missing condition was taken care of at some point... i was able to finish the track. and i think it is much better than i thought it would ever be originally. it is a simple song technically... but it means a lot to me for various reasons.

07 t7-inkMINx2a2zTcccExS (2'02")

actually... this was *truly* the last song i made. i realized i could use *one more* song on this release.

and since the 'swim with me' samples in the remix "Ink" song vaguely related to the cover-art i made a full year before... it seemed possible to just make a reprise of that track 2 "Ink" song.

basically i was comparing the original original song used in the movie with what i added in the track 2 remix... and realized that cutting out ALL the original stuff actually was a decent song itself!

so i did that. moved things around. changed up some things. added in another longer sample from the movie. redid automation and effects... and then done. a decent closing track that vaguely ties into the cover-art.

i'm sure that was all very interesting to everyone.

enjoy this final basic canoeing release!
